These symposia will be held at
the University of Aizu.
The University of Aizu is located in
Aizu-Wakamatsu,
Fukushima,
Japan, which is about 250km from Tokyo to the north.
(Travel information pamphlet is
here.)
The basic access methods from Tokyo to Aizu-Wakamatsu are available here. Roughly estimated time from Narita airport to Aizu-Wakamatsu is about 4-4.5 hours via Tokyo (1-1.5 hours to Tokyo, and additional 2.5-3 hours to Aizu-Wakamatsu). An alternative access from Narita airport is by a limousine bus to JR Utsunomiya station (about 3 hours), which is located on a way between Tokyo and Aizu-Wakamatsu (JR = Japan Railway). From Utsunomiya, it takes about 45 min. to Koriyama by Shinkansen (super-express train), and additional 1 hour by local train to Aizu-Wakamatsu. Check here for an example schedule of access. You can search your own travel schedule here (please use "Aizuwakamatsu" instead of "Aizu-Wakamatsu" during search).

The University of Aizu is about 20-25 min. by foot from JR Aizu-Wakamatsu
station to the north. The local access by public bus (every 30min., JPY 160)
or taxi (probably around JPY 700) is also available.
Public bus time table of weekday is here. The number of public buses becomes almost half on holidays (such as 15th/16th September). Public bus time table of holyday (sorry in Japanese) is here. From Sept.12 to Sept.17, two buses are arranged between hotels and the University of Aizu before the first session and after the last session. Participants from outside Japan have a choice "JR East Pass" or "Japan Rail Pass" instead of normal JR fare, which is available ONLY outside Japan. |
